- Visual specification: ≥5,000 nits high brightness, ideal for outdoor commercial districts under intense direct sunlight
As the most vibrant commercial hub in Southeast Asia, Jakarta’s core roundabout was in need of a visual landmark that breaks with convention. With its deep manufacturing expertise, SPECTRUM turned this facade into a “breathing” 3D dynamic art sculpture.

Core Challenges: Extreme Tropical Environment and Mega-Screen O&M
Deploying such a large-scale kinetic visual installation in Indonesia meant overcoming industry-recognized technical barriers:
Extreme tropical climate: Jakarta endures high temperature and humidity (80%+) year-round, with annual rainfall exceeding 2,000 mm. Strong UV, salt-laden sea breezes and sudden rainstorms pose a constant threat to the service life of exposed motors, telescopic guide rails and electronic components.
Synchronization of a giant matrix: the large-format 3D effect requires hundreds of kinetic modules to lock onto the video frame at millisecond level; any communication delay would tear the image apart.
O&M pain points on a high-rise: the screen is mounted on the hotel’s exterior wall. Conventional crane or aerial-lift maintenance would be extremely costly and severely disrupt the operation of a five-star hotel.

The SPECTRUM Solution: Hard-Core Architecture for Reliability
Facing these challenges, the SPECTRUM team deployed a fully integrated protection and control ecosystem:
[Climate Defense] Semi-enclosed self-cooling construction: the SPKO-500 uses industrial die-casting, with a semi-enclosed self-cooling heat-dissipation system built into each telescopic unit and rigorous waterproof, anti-corrosion treatment at the base. Whether in a rainstorm or under the scorching sun, the core drive chamber keeps running stably.
[Control Hub] Dual Redundancy: every control window carries one primary and one backup receiving card. If the main signal line fails, the backup system takes over instantly and seamlessly, ensuring the landmark screen never goes dark.
[Power System] Independent floor-level power distribution: an intelligent tiered power design gives each floor its own 55 kW distribution box, switched and controlled via multifunction cards. This greatly reduces voltage-drop losses and makes later maintenance exceptionally simple.
[Ultimate Synchronization] Automotive-grade CAN bus: abandoning less stable legacy protocols, the system uses highly interference-resistant CAN bus communication to guarantee absolute synchronization between massive motion data and video signals.

Value Delivered and ROI
Once lit up, the screen instantly became a sensation among Jakarta’s residents and visitors.
Creating a city-level global landmark: the striking 3D telescopic visuals went viral on Instagram and other social platforms, delivering immeasurable exposure premium for the hotel and the brands advertising on the screen.
A lower-cost O&M system: with a fully rear-access maintenance channel and modular replacement design, the project drastically cut the labor and time cost of overseas work at height, achieving a high return on investment across the equipment’s full life cycle.
Outdoor Kinetic Screen FAQ
Q1: How does an outdoor kinetic screen cope with typhoons and rainstorms?
The SPECTRUM SPKO outdoor series is engineered for all-weather operation. Its housing uses high-strength hardware with an anti-corrosion coating, and the interior adopts semi-enclosed self-cooling heat dissipation. Once the screen stops moving and retracts into place, its wind resistance is on par with a conventional fixed outdoor screen — unafraid of tropical rainstorms and strong UV.
Q2: Is maintenance of a giant kinetic screen expensive? How is it serviced?
SPECTRUM greatly reduces maintenance cost compared with conventional screens. The SPKO series supports full rear maintenance (a service corridor is required; the finished wall thickness is about 1,650 mm). Technicians can remove the rear cover directly behind the screen and extract the motor and LED module assembly as a whole — no large aerial equipment needed on the outside.
Q3: Does the image tear when the screen extends and retracts?
No. SPECTRUM applies visual seamlessness technology (LED chip relocation), shifting the lamp edge outward to compress a 5 mm physical gap to a near-invisible minimum. Combined with millisecond-level CAN bus synchronization, the 3D visuals stay extremely smooth.
